We like this unit, not just because it’s economical but because it’s so fast and easy. It connects directly to the radiator filler neck or reservoir tank and you don’t need to mess with cutting header hoses or disconnecting radiator hoses or any other time-gobbling annoyances. We all know it doesn’t have to be such a nuisance but it is and there isn’t much we can do about it. The people over at Astro Pneumatic have assembled a few kits that pretty much covers the whole problem. Don’t know if it’ll help when some elderly gentleman in a turbin and a 1959 Tata that steams into the shop but most everything else domestic or German can be handled with the specialty mechanics tools in one of these three kits.

First off, the Astro Pneumatic AP7895 is a collection of ten wrenches and holding tools that will take care of most domestic fan clutch problems and let technicians get right at the water pump - AND of course, with a little luck, one of the tools may well be adaptable for most foreign cars too. The AP7895 sells for around $80 and should form the basic mechanics tools collection for any technicians fan clutch service work.

There’s also a four piece fan clutch wrench set, the AP7867, that’s assembled specifically for use on Ford products. Works on M111, OM604, OM605 and OM606 Mercedes-Benz engines from C & E classes with 36mm opening. The BMW Fan Clutch Holding Wrenches allow the water pump pulley to be held in place while the radiator fan is loosened. Holes at 38mm & 44.5mm permits work on BMW M10, M20, M30 and many other late model vehicles. The AP78200 kit is a good addition to those tools in the AP7895 and should take speed up fan clutch removal and replacement on most cars that most technicians are likely to encounter that require these specialty mechanics tools.
