In order to reduce our environmental footprint on planet earth, we all need to take proactive steps in this cause. One step by one person isn’t much, but if millions step forward at the same time, we can really make a difference. Here is a checklist of tips you can employ at home to make it your life a little greener.
- Go outside a plant a tree. Besides the obvious benefits replacing the trees that we chop down as a society, I bet you didn’t know that you could reduce the cost of cooling your house by as much as half by planting trees close to your home.
- Install special aerators in your faucets to reduce water usage. These little gadgets give the appearance of greater water flow by injecting air into the stream at the same time.
- Pay your bills and do your banking online. 2.1 tons of greenhouse gas could be eliminated by this measure.
- Recycle - You already know this one.
- Replace your inefficient incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.
- Use recycled paper - One ton of recycled paper uses seventeen fewer trees and sixty-seven percent less energy and saves enough to power a house for a year.
- Buy Energy Star air conditioners, refrigerators, washers, etc. This is a great way to lower overall energy costs.
- Get your appliances checked for freon leaks by using a leak detector like the ones sold in the Mechanics Tool Supply store.
