Air powered tools can reduce the time it takes to complete large jobs. One air tool that is very useful is an air hammer. One of the greatest advantages of an air hammer is the ability to interchangeability of the accessories attached to the front of the hammer. Due to its ability to complete multiple types of jobs, the addition of an air hammer to your air tool arsenal should be a no-brainer.
Some of the accessories available include a chisel, cutter, punch (usually tapered), and a general hammer. Common uses of a air hammer include: panel cutting, bolt cutting, bushing driving, front end and exhaust system work.
Certain quality air hammers included some sort of vibration reduction feature. Without this feature, the ability to use this tool for any length of time would be greatly reduced. With the amount of blows per minute these tools produce, a serious amount of kinetic energy is created. Vibration reduction technology make sure that this extra energy isn’t all running down your arm. Also, the grips have improved over the years to increase usability and control.
The professional air hammers at Mechanics Tool Supply run between 1800 - 3500 BPM (blows per minute) at 90 PSI (pounds per square inch). Make sure if you are in the market for any quality air tool including an air hammer that you check out the full inventory at Mechanics Tool Supply.

Heavy duty industrial air hammers have an important component that you may have heard of, but you probably don’t know what it does. This component is called a solenoid value.
When current is pumped through a solenoid to change the state of a valve, the classification of the value becomes a solenoid valve. First, I better explain what a solenoid is. It is magnetized wire that is wrapped in a coil form. The magnetization happens when electricity is ran through the coil.
The valve harnesses the power of the solenid to perform some action like control the air flow to an air tool.
There are many parts of a solenoid value that could go faulty including any electric connections, nuts, O rings, seal cartridge, and even the solenoid coil. There are also multiple types of solenoid values including low and high pressure steam types. And the other major type of solenoid valve is just actually called a “general purpose” type valve.
Since a solenoid value is a moving part, it has the ability to wear down or get damaged. If you think your solenoid is need of repair check out the website, Mechanics Tool Supply to see if they have the proper diagnostic tools or replacement parts for your needs.

Sometimes a power saw just isn’t up to the task. Very thick sheet metal can be hard to cut correctly if you don’t have a tool with enough fine precision cutting power. This is where an air shear comes into play.
This type of compressed air power tool uses the simple but effective power of air to spin a motor inside the hand held device. The result is a type of “super-powered” scissors after this motor causes a blade to move 1000x per minute for its extreme cutting power.
If you have used any sort of power cutting device the use of this air tool is very uncomplicated task, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be dangerous. Some sort of safety eye protection must be worn during the use of such a device.
Before you start make sure you clear your workspace. Also, don’t forget to mark the areas that need to be cut. To eliminate sharp edges or uneven cuts be sure to leave a little extra room. You’ll just have to file this section down later.
As you start cutting make sure your moving at the same pace the entire time during the cutting process. This help eliminate a lot of the unevenness that may occur.
Practice makes perfect so make sure you do a couple of trial runs on a piece of scrap metal before you cut your target piece.
If you think a professional air shear might be right for cutting jobs in your shop check out the selection of shears at Mechanics Tool Supply.
