The UV570000 by UVIEW is the most economical unit on the market for testing and refilling the engine cooling system. The UV570000 is available for less than $700 (more from some dealers; Mechanics Tool Supply sells it for $689 so don’t pay more for any mechanics tools than you must).

We like this unit, not just because it’s economical but because it’s so fast and easy. It connects directly to the radiator filler neck or reservoir tank and you don’t need to mess with cutting header hoses or disconnecting radiator hoses or any other time-gobbling annoyances. Don’t know why some of the other drain and fill makers want you to go through all that trouble - probably had something to do with childhood problems or something. The design folks at UVIEW were apparently raised with an appreciation for mechanics tools that just do the job and don’t manufacture unnecessary work.

The WECSA61831 is the most comprehensive professional cooling system test and service kit available.  Unlike the WECSA61868 Grand Master Cooling System Test and Refill Kit, the WECSA61831 only tests and services the cooling system pressure.  The system uses shop air to maintain constant pressure without the engine running.  When used with UV dyes it allows extremely slow leaks enough time to become evident without continuous hand pumping.  Professional duty positive seal twist lock adapter fits all “A” and small neck radiators.  The twist lock adapters eliminate the problems with unreliable rubber plugs or bladders, which saves set up time and provides greater test accuracy.  With the User Guide and Adapter look-up table it is easy to find the instructions or the adapter needed to service the vehicle you need to work on.  The WECSA61831 comes in a blow-molded storage case, which makes the kit safe and easy to carry.

Whichever mythological god that rules over the realm of fan clutches just doesn’t like mortals and especially dislikes the technician variety of mortal more than the rest. Just the very idea of a mechanism that free spins around in one direction while somebody has to remove a nut from the same spindle has the be the creation of an entity that’s very, very angry. Now add multiple sizes from car to car and truck to truck and the anger has degenerated to outright hatred.

We all know it doesn’t have to be such a nuisance but it is and there isn’t much we can do about it. The Larger open-ended wrench and large holding wrench fit 6.9 & 7.3 liter diesel engines 

If your shop has a market for Mercedes and BMW customers, there’s the  AP78200 kit. Mostly the wrenches in this kit are specifically sized to enable technicians to get into tight areas that are unique to Benz and BMW (and yeah, even some Fords) engine configurations. Works on M111, OM604, OM605 and OM606 Mercedes-Benz engines from C & E classes with 36mm opening. The BMW Fan Clutch Holding Wrenches allow the water pump pulley to be held in place while the radiator fan is loosened. Holes at 38mm & 44.5mm permits work on BMW M10, M20, M30 and many other late model vehicles. The AP78200 kit is a good addition to those tools in the AP7895 and should take speed up fan clutch removal and replacement on most cars that most technicians are likely to encounter that require these specialty mechanics tools.

Sometimes it gets a little uncomfortable when the price of specific mechanics tools starts to look too attractive.
