Solenoid Valve Info

Heavy duty industrial air hammers have an important component that you may have heard of, but you probably don’t know what it does.  This component is called a solenoid value.

When current is pumped through a solenoid to change the state of a valve, the classification of the value becomes a solenoid valve.  First, I better explain what a solenoid is.    It is magnetized wire that is wrapped in a coil form.  The magnetization happens when electricity is ran through the coil.

The valve harnesses the power of the solenid to perform some action like control the air flow to an air tool.

There are many parts of a solenoid value that could go faulty including any electric connections, nuts, O rings, seal cartridge, and even the solenoid coil.  There are also multiple types of solenoid values including low and high pressure steam types.  And the other major type of solenoid valve is just actually called a “general purpose” type valve.

Since a solenoid value is a moving part, it has the ability to wear down or get damaged.  If you think your solenoid is need of repair check out the website, Mechanics Tool Supply to see if they have the proper diagnostic tools or replacement parts for your needs.
